LQD is a new chitosan based spray that can be used as a dressing on your wound. LQD is supplied in a spray bottle that allows you or your carer to apply it to your wound easily. LQD forms a protective layer over the wounds surface that helps activate self healing.

LQD is recommended for patients with chronic wounds, such as leg ulcers or diabetic foot ulcers, acute wounds in awkward areas and for patients with burns.

What makes LQD so special?

LQD contains a highly potent form of chitosan, which is derived from chitin - a natural sugar compound found in prawn shells.

LQD is a natural antibacterial and has a number of benefits when applied to wounds.

LQD provides protection to your wound and can help reduce pain.

The chitosan contained within LQD aids wound healing.

How to use LQD?

As LQD is a spray, this allows you to use the product in awkward areas making it easy enough for you to apply the product yourself.

The spray is dispersed exactly 0.1ml per actuation and each bottle contains 12ml. This is equivalent to 120 sprays. After opening the bottle it may be used for up to 12 weeks.

Once the wound has been cleaned, apply LQD by pumping the spray nozzle.

Depending on the size of your wound you should use between 2 and 4 sprays per application.

Once you spray LQD it is important to leave it for 2 minutes. This is to allow LQD to dry and form a protective layer on the wound.

You can then use another dressing if necessary, see below.

Do I need another dressing?

If your wound is not leaking, then LQD can be used on its own without another dressing.

If your wound has low levels of fluid leaking from it, then you might want to use a dressing to help absorb this fluid.

Please note that LQD is not fully effective if used with hydrogels or hydrocolloid dressings, for advice on this please consult a medical professional.

How often should I apply LQD?

You should apply LQD as often as you would normally replace your other wound dressings.

When should I stop using LQD?

LQD can be used in all stages of healing so be sure to keep using LQD until your wound has completely healed.

If you are seeing no change in the wound over a period of 1-2 months, then you should seek advice from your health care professional. There may be another issue that could be preventing your wound from healing.

If your wound begins to deteriorate, for example becomes red, hot, swollen or leaky, this might indicate infection. In this situation you should notify your health care professional immediately.
