Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins are extremely common and usually begin to appear in 75% of women and 50% of men in their 30’s. As well as unsightly and embarrassing, Varicose Veins can cause pain and discomfort, and if left untreated can develop into more serious venous conditions.

Although there are no scientifically proven ways to prevent Varicose Veins the following precautions have been suggested:

  • Exercise regularly and try not to stay still in any one position for a long period of time
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Wear compression hosiery, making sure that your measurements are correct for optimum effect and comfort

Compression stockings are specially designed to direct blood flow towards your heart and increase circulation by steadily applying pressure to your legs.

Although it is not known whether compression hosiery eliminates the risk of Varicose Veins forming, they do reduce the swelling, aching and heaviness that sufferers of Varicose Veins are likely to experience.
