A leg ulcer is a long lasting wound on the foot or leg that takes over 6 weeks to heal. Symptoms include itching, pain and swelling.

Venous leg ulcers are not the only type of Leg Ulcer, although they do account for 80-85% of cases. Other common leg ulcers can be found on NHS Choices.

The biggest risk factors for venous leg ulcers include obesity, Varicose veins and immobility.

One of the most effective ways to treat a venous leg ulcer is with firm compression from banding or hosiery.

Correct use will lead to 70% of ulcers healing within 6 months. Continued wear is recommended to prevent reoccurrence.
